Seek First His Kingdom and His Righteousness (Matt. 6:25-34)

Seek First His Kingdom and His Righteousness (Matt. 6:25-34)

1. Unnecessary Worries
Long long time ago there was a person in China, who worried too much about whether the heaven would fall down and whether the earth would sink. He could neither eat nor sleep because of his worries. His friend, sympathizing him, tells him: "Don't worry about too much. The heaven will not fall down." Then, the person of worries replies: "Even if the heaven will not fall, the stars in heaven might fall down." His friend tells him again: "Don't worry. The stars will not fall down, either." Then, he again replies: "Although the heaven and the stars will not fall down, the earth might sink." His friend answers him: "Don't worry. it will never sink as it is all filled with dirt." When he heard his friend's explanation, he felt secured. Then, he could eat and sleep well. This person's worries were unnecessary and useless.
People live their worries with their worries and concerns. However, most of heir worries are unnecessary. More than 90 percent of people's worries are said to be about things that would never happen.

What are your worries and concerns about? What are you most interested in? Are you worried about your life 100 years later? Are you worried about what if you cannot marry your boyfriend or girlfriend you like most right now as a teenager? Do not worry about them. These are all unnecessary worries.
Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 5:7 tells us: "Cast all your anxiety on him (=the Lord) because he cares for you."

2. Do Not Worry About Your Life, Or Your Body (V. 25)
Jesus tells you not to worry about your life nor about your body. Many people are worry about what to eat, what to drink, and what to wear. But, what to eat, what to drink, or what to wear is not so important if we know that we can eat some food, we can drink some drink, and we can wear some clothes. When Jesus tells you not worry about them, it does not mean that you don't have to pray for them. As Jesus taught you how and about what to pray, you need to pray God about your daily bread.

What Jesus wants to emphasize in today's passage is that there is more important life than your material life and there is more important body than your physical body.
What is your more important life than your material life?
That is your spiritual life or your eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
Jesus tells you in Matthew 4:4 that "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
So, you must show your more interest in your spiritual life. You need to eat more bread of life--that is, the Word of God.

What is your more important body than your physical body?
That is your spiritual body or your glorious body in the Kingdom of God.
You need to show your interest in how you can wear more beautiful spiritual clothing. Your spiritual clothing is the clothing of Christ.
Paul in Galathians 3:27 tells you that "all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed your selves with Christ." What does this mean? What are the clothes of Christ? The clothes of Christ are your internal clothes or fruit of the Spirit--love, joy, peace, patience, mercy, goodness, loyalty, meekness, and self control. These internal characters belong to the Kingdom of God.

3. Why Should You Not Worry About Your Life and Body?(Vv. 26-32)
Your heavenly Father is the God of care. He, who takes good care of the birds of the air by feeding them and the grass of the field by clothing them with beautiful clothes, will take good care of you in your life by feeding with food and drinks and by clothing you with good clothes, because He loves each of you very much. So, do not worry about what to eat, what to drink, or what to wear.
These worries belong to the pagans who do not know the heavenly Father and who do not abide in Him.

4. Seek First His Kingdom and His Righteousness (V. 33)
What is the Kingdom of God?
The Kingdom of God is the domain or region where God reigns or where the sovereignty of God reaches. If your mind is willing to listen and obey to the Word of God, you will have the Kingdom of God in you.

How can you seek His Kingdom?
By reading the Bible in your daily life and by trying actively to live by His Word, you can seek His Kingdom. By spreading His Word to your friends, you will expand His Kingdom in this world.
You can seek His righteousness by imitating the life of Christ. You can seek His righteousness by trying actively to come closer to the Lord, and by living actively according to His goodness, holiness, and cleanness.
